Whether they are Habitat homes sold back to the organization or homes we purchase on the open market, Next Generation Homes are another way we are preserving affordable housing in our community. Instead of being torn down to make way for newer, more expensive units, Habitat Charlotte Region rehabilitates these homes and recycles them back into our inventory for families to purchase. Since the first location opened, the Charlotte Region ReStores have funded affordable homeownership opportunities for families from Pineville to Statesville and all points in between. We are grateful for the loyalty of our shoppers, generosity of our donors, and the faithfulness of our volunteers. Shopping at a Habitat ReStore isn’t like the shopping experience anywhere else.

For its work the city collaborates with nonprofits, housing developers, and community partners using The Housing Charlotte Framework. The Framework’s goal is to expand access to opportunity through housing investments using funds from the City’s Housing Trust Fund. There are hundreds of ReStore locations – and they’re all open to the public. Affordable housing refers to housing options that cost a family no more than 30% of their income. As one of the fastest-growing cities in America, Charlotte has seen a surge in population, causing housing prices to rise significantly. The University closure reduces Habitat Charlotte Region’s retail footprint to 6 area locations. We will continue to operate our Pineville, Wilkinson, Wendover, Cornelius, Mooresville and Statesville ReStores. Habitat Charlotte Region’s new home floor plans range in size from a 2-bedroom, 1-bath design up to a 5-bedroom, 2.5-bath design, in addition to other single and Townhome layouts (project dependent).

When you donate your-gently used items to the Charlotte Region ReStores, you are changing lives by making affordable homeownership a reality for a family in your own community! Through the resale of your generous donations, we are able to help fund the construction and repair of homes with Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Proceeds are used to build homes and improve communities locally and around the world.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept broken, stained, inoperable items, or items that violate health and safety regulations. We reserve the right to refuse any donation drop-off or pick-up if it does not meet our donation criteria or standards. Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region officially reopened the newly renovated Cornelius Restore with a ribbon-cutting courtesy of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce. The Cornelius Restore, one of six retail operations run by Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, got a $400,000 update. Since launching the Cars for Homes national vehicle donation program in 2005, Habitat for Humanity has accepted over 100,000 vehicles for reselling or recycling, raising more than $30 million in the last 5 years alone. The program has raised funds for Habitat Charlotte Region to partner with local families to build safe, stable, and affordable homes. We make it fast and easy to donate a vehicle, and you may qualify for a tax deduction. In many locations, Habitat for Humanity operates ReStores, which sell reusable and surplus building materials, furniture and appliances to the public. Due to the scarcity of affordable land in our area, single-family attached units are becoming a larger part of Habitat Charlotte Region’s work. At the Charlotte Region ReStores and Julia’s Café & Books, we have many opportunities for individuals or groups, including cashier, sales floor, merchandise processing and more! Spend your time getting to know customers, staff, and homeowners-in-process and feel good knowing the work you do is building strength and stability through shelter. In addition to furniture, appliances, home décor and home improvement items, we also accept books, DVDs, vinyl records, and VHS tapes. Beginning August 24, the University ReStore will reduce its days of operation to Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4pm. It will be closing in the November timeframe to allow time to wind down operations, and to place University ReStore staff into other roles within retail operations. A guiding principle of the Our Towns Habitat and Habitat Charlotte merger was to combine resources in order to gain efficiencies, reduce costs, and subsequently serve more families. After passing its 5-year anniversary earlier this year, the University ReStore location was never able to fully gain a foothold in the market, and drive revenue levels that delivered a positive net operating income.
